Meet Hien Fran Tran

I am Hien Fran Tran. I am from Vietnam but have been in the U.S since 2000. I am a passionate registered nurse, a free land medical interpreter and a proud board member with Girls on the run Greater Kansas City, active Liberty race committee member as well as an active volunteer in community. I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters, running around town and having coffee time with my friends. The people that are close to me will tell you that I am pretty high energy, easy going and love having a good time!

Q: Tell us more about your role at Liberty Hospital

A: I am a staff nurse on 2E – Cardiac & Clinical Decision Unit. My job consists of assessing my patients, reviewing their lab results, and collaborating with other interdisciplinary teams to develop personalized care plans for cardiac conditions. I also get to monitor the effectiveness of ongoing treatment and adjust nursing interventions based on patient’s feedback, clinical findings and physician orders as well as coordinating care with dietitians, physical therapists, speech therapists and others to formulate the best possible experience for our people here at Liberty Hospital. Collaborating with our cardiologists, intensivists, and nurse practitioners to develop personalized care plans for patients with cardiac conditions is a big part of what I do, communication is everything. One of my favorite aspects of the job is my ability to educate patients on their specific cardiac conditions and to provide reassurance and emotional support to patients and families experiencing anxiety, fear, or depression related to cardiac illness. Being a nurse is so much more than administering medications and paging doctors, you are acting as a therapist, a care manager, an educator and more, but most importantly, an advocate and friend.

Q: Explain your volunteering with the Foundation, and why you choose to give back

A: I have been involved with the Foundation last few years with volunteering at Liberty Hy-Vee Half Marathon and Jewell 5K at packet pickup and now serving as committee member for the race. This race is held every March, and all proceeds help funding to assist under-insured and under-served patients, support community health education and programs, provide valuable resources to hospital employees and patients, and offer pathways to education.

Q: What makes RUN Liberty so special?

A: As a runner I am all about the larger-than-life finisher medals, personalized bibs, free race photos, very soft long sleeve shirt, 3Halves Craft beer, chip timing and discounts/giveaways from sponsors! I love to run in the cold with 200+ new friends through the stunning and scenic racecourse starting and ending at William Jewell College and going through downtown Liberty. I am not fond of the hills but #whynotthehills because what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, I love a good challenge!

Q: Why did you choose to work at Liberty Hospital?

A: I enjoy working here because of the look on a relieved patient’s face when they see you’re back to take care of them the next night, because they trust you and know that you’re looking out for them. I enjoy working at Liberty Hospital because I know when I come into work, I am surrounded by coworkers that care about me and have my back. I love my job because it taught me how to love and care for strangers with my whole heart and give them everything during my 12 hour shift. The sense of fulfillment that caring for my patients gives me is something that is unrivaled with any office job or 9-5. This work changes your brain chemistry in a way, it changes you as a person, and I think it has made me into something better than what I was before.
