Meet Katie Kirkpatrick, Rn, BSN, Nurse Manager
Question: Why did you become a nurse?
A: “I love helping people. I always have. Being a caregiver and resource person makes me feel good. There is no better feeling than solving problems to help someone overcome their issues whether they are mental, physical, or emotional. I cannot imagine doing anything else.”
Q: What is your favorite part of being a nurse?
A: “In my role as a Nurse Manager, I am now primarily responsible for helping our team. I love sitting down with someone and figuring out a way to help them. If it’s a schedule issue, advice on performance enhancement, or something more personal. I am here to help them with whatever they need to the best of my abilities, and I love being that person they turn to.”
Q: What advice would you give an aspiring nurse?
A: “Find something that you are passionate about. It may take some exploring of different areas, but you will find your people that give you the most out of your career. Don’t settle for ok, find what you are really happy with.”
Q: What keeps you motivated during tough shifts?
A: “Our team. I work with hands-down THE best people around. Not just in the ED but throughout other departments as well. I feel supported and cared for.”
Q: What has been your best experience at the Hosptial that made you enjoy nursing more?
A: “Finding the balance between being a leader and being a nurse at the bedside. I love coming out of my office to help on the unit. I really feel that I get the best of both worlds!”
