LIBERTY, Mo., October 22, 2024 – In the Liberty community, students facing acute illnesses are getting the care they need faster, thanks to a collaborative program spearheaded by the Liberty Hospital Foundation and Liberty Hospital. The initiative provides school nurses with vouchers for urgent care visits, making healthcare more accessible for families and ensuring that students return to the classroom as soon as possible.

Originally launched with two high schools, the program has grown to cover all students from kindergarten through 12th grade for the Liberty School District. The vouchers—redeemable for acute, non-injury care, such as treatment for strep throat or pink eye—are designed to remove barriers to healthcare and minimize disruptions to education.

Michael C. Russell, CAE, Executive Director of the Liberty Hospital Foundation, explains:

“Our goal is to get students the care they need so they can recover quickly and get back in school. Last year alone, we assisted 38 students with urgent care and Price Chopper vouchers, reinforcing our commitment to community well-being.”

For families with additional needs, the program also provides information on community resources, helping them navigate challenges beyond healthcare.

The results speak for themselves—38 students received assistance in the last fiscal year. With the ongoing support of Liberty Hospital, local schools, and Price Chopper, the program continues to ensure that no student is left behind when it comes to accessing the care they need.

This partnership exemplifies the importance of working together to create a healthier, more supportive environment for students. As the Liberty Hospital Foundation looks ahead to the future, we remain committed to expanding the reach of this program and serving even more families in our community.
