LIBERTY, Mo., February 29, 2024 – In February, Liberty Hospital Foundation received an American Rescue Fund Act (ARPA) Grant of $65,000 to assist with “services that address health disparities of the disproportionately impacted household, population, or community.” Liberty Hospital Foundation applied for this funding “to respond to the public health emergency or its negative economic impacts, including assistance to households, small business, and nonprofits…” Additionally, applying for these funds helps give “assistance to expand access to health insurance.”

Liberty Hospital Foundation has selected the Patient Assistance Program, in which 95% of assistance helps fund low- and moderate-income households (as defined by the US Treasury). This grant helps fuel programs that benefit the Liberty Hospital community greatly. Currently, the grant will fund the entire operating budget for Patient Assistance for an entire fiscal year. For example, these funds help to cover the cost of over 1,000 transported patients, urgent care visits for uninsured Liberty Public School students, sports physicals for uninsured Liberty Public Schools, medication assistance, DME (walkers, oxygen, wheelchairs, etc.), new clothes to leave the hospital with, covering medication costs, and so much more.

Liberty Hospital’s Care Management Department is at the forefront of utilizing these funds, who identifies the patients that will receive assistance from the Program. One of their criteria is health insurance: if the patient does not have any, if they might quality for income-assisted insurance (Medicaid), etc.
