LIBERTY, Mo.,  March 28, 2024 – As the sun rose over Liberty, Missouri, the streets buzzed with excitement on the morning of the 2024 Liberty Half Marathon and Jewell 5K. Runners stretched, nerves tingling with anticipation, while volunteers lined the course, ready to play their part in yet another exhilarating event. From the crack of dawn until the last runner crossed the finish line, 255 dedicated volunteers poured their energy and enthusiasm into ensuring the success of this beloved annual race.

Among the sea of volunteers were several standout individuals who went above and beyond to make the event possible. Board members stepped into crucial roles on race day, embodying the spirit of community and teamwork that defines the Liberty Half Marathon and Jewell 5K.

Beau Broussard manned a water stop, providing much-needed hydration to runners as they tackled the challenging course. Dane Martin led the Kids Run with boundless enthusiasm, inspiring young participants to embrace the joy of running. Vicki Haas lent her support to Friends of the Race, fostering connections and camaraderie among participants and spectators alike. Dr. Raghu Adiga and David Feess not only ran in the 5K but also served as beacons of encouragement and determination for their fellow participants. Nathan Spencer’s tireless efforts were felt throughout the race, as he lent a helping hand wherever it was needed most. A last Board thank you goes to Kari Jo Thomann-Bear for her and Thomann Financials Race Bib Sponsorship. Every runner, walker, and some limping to the finish line donned the Thomann Financial Services name on their bib!

Specifically, it is Dru Peregrine who deserves special recognition for her exceptional leadership as a lead volunteer for the race. Organizing the finish line with precision and grace, Dru’s dedication ensured that the event ran smoothly from start to finish. Without her guidance and expertise, the race would not have been the same.

As we reflect on the success of the 2024 Liberty Half Marathon and Jewell 5K, we extend our deepest gratitude to Race Director Julie Gilmor for her tireless efforts in orchestrating her first race at the helm. Julie’s passion and dedication were evident in every aspect of the event, from course planning to participant registration. The support of Justin Lee and Liz Thorpe-Greenwald was invaluable, their behind-the-scenes work ensuring that every detail was attended to with care and precision. Finally, we express our heartfelt thanks to Michael C. Russell, Executive Director, whose vision and leadership have been instrumental in shaping the Liberty Half Marathon and Jewell 5K into a premier event and one of the largest events in Liberty in 2024!

As the sun sets on another successful race day, we honor the dedication and commitment of each and every volunteer who made the 2024 Liberty Half Marathon and Jewell 5K possible. Your selflessness and enthusiasm embody the spirit of our community, reminding us all of the power of coming together to achieve something truly extraordinary. Until next year, thank you for your unwavering support and dedication.
