LIBERTY, Mo., August 13, 2024 – Access to healthcare should never be hindered by transportation barriers. Recognizing this critical issue, the Liberty Hospital Foundation has launched Health on Wheels, a transformative program aimed at ensuring that everyone in the Liberty Hospital area and surrounding communities can reach their medical appointments without obstacles.
Through the Patient Assistance Program, Health on Wheels partners with Uber Health to provide reliable, on-demand transportation services to patients in need. This collaboration has already proven its value, with 813 rides provided by Uber Health in Fiscal Year 2024 alone. The program has seen remarkable growth and impact, reflecting a significant commitment to improving healthcare access for all.
The Patient Assistance Program, a key component of Health on Wheels, has played a crucial role in addressing transportation challenges. In FY 2024, the program assisted 988 patients with transportation services, a substantial increase of 548 patients compared to FY 2023. This impressive growth underscores the program’s success in expanding its reach and making a meaningful difference in the community.
Dennie Anderson, Director of Care Management, highlights the impact of these achievements: “This statement deserves repeating: we were able to help 548 more patients with transportation in FY 2024. What an amazing impact we are making for our community.”
Michael C. Russell, CAE, Executive Director of the Liberty Hospital Foundation, adds: “Health on Wheels represents our commitment to removing barriers that prevent people from accessing vital healthcare. The increase in patients served is a testament to the program’s success and our community’s support. We are dedicated to continuing this momentum and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to receive the care they need.”
Health on Wheels is more than just a transportation service; it is a lifeline that ensures individuals can attend crucial medical appointments, manage chronic conditions, and maintain continuity of care. By addressing one of the most significant barriers to healthcare access, the program is contributing to improved health outcomes and a more equitable healthcare system.
The success of Health on Wheels demonstrates the power of strategic partnerships and community support in overcoming barriers to care. As the program continues to expand and evolve, it remains committed to ensuring that transportation is no longer a barrier to accessing essential healthcare services.
With ongoing support and engagement, Health on Wheels will continue to drive positive change, ensuring that every member of the Kansas City community has the opportunity to receive the care they need and deserve.
